Kissing Nature
Empathy Ecologies by Lancel/Maat
Empathy Ecologies is an interactive performance installation by Karen Lancel and Hermen Maat. It shows a hopeful narrative about future empathic connections between people, plants and technology. Plants are known to respond to human bodies, sound, touch and behaviour. The installation, a baroque mini-jungle of ferns from the forests of Oranjewoud, invites participants to explore a new embodied ‘empathy practice’ with plants.

January 24, 2024 - New Year's concert
Sunday January 21, 2024 SOLD OUT!
entry from 10.30 am, start at 11.00 am
On Sunday, January 21, 2024, the New Year's concert starts at 11 a.m. in the Museum Café of Museum Belvédère, by occasional duo and fellow locals Wytske Holtrop, cello and Jelmer Tichelaar, marimba.
The concert lasts one hour and also offers the opportunity to wish each other a 'Happy New Year' while enjoying a drink. The concert program consists of music by the Estonian composer Ervo Pärt (1935) and the Argentinian composer and bandoneonist Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992).
A special program element is music by the Lithuanian composer and visual artist Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911). From February 24 to June 9, 2024, Museum Belvédère will present an exhibition of his work for the first time in the Netherland. The music played by him during the concert can therefore be regarded as a 'prelude' to the exhibition.

May 26 to May 29, 2023 - Oranjewoud Festival
Oranjewoud - Pentecost weekend 26 to 29 May, 2023
During the eleventh edition of Oranjewoud Festival, Museum Belvédère will be integrated as a whole into the versatile, four-day event. An important part of the Expedition Zone, the festival's adventurous program line, takes place in and around the Museum.
The experience of the main exhibition Like Death (Als de Dood) and the exhibition 8 Frisian Artists becomes a unique experience through the collaboration with the festival; the interface between visual art and music will be explored in numerous ways.
Museum Belvédère will form the epicenter of the Expedition Zone from May 27 to 29 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., with a collection of installations, presentations and performances in and around the museum building that stimulate the musical experience.
After 5 p.m. the Museum is the setting for individual performances.
The complete program in and around the museum can be visited with the Expedition Zone Day Ticket or an entrance ticket to the museum for € 14.00 (the Museum Card is also valid). This includes access to Festivalhart De Proeftuin and the Family Zone.
Outside opening hours, Museum Belvédère hosts a number of evening concerts in the Museum Café. A ticket must be purchased separately for this.
